    Description

      Epic Goal

      • Perform the research of:
        • 1) extending compute nodes in clusters installed with IPI;
        • 2) Install the cluster in existing networks with subnets in Local Zones;
        • 3) Create the use case of compute node running in Local Zones, considering ingress traffic with ALB (only ELB supported)
      • Document all the results, address the eventually issues to the teams
      • Create the public content/blog post with the research results
      • Guide the QE and Docs teams to create the product documentation

      Why is this important?

      • Edge computing solutions requests are increasing, many telcos can use existing Cloud Infrastructures easily to increase the time to market their solutions. AWS Local Zones and Wavelength has been delivered by AWS to help customers to deliver low-latency while delivering cloud infrastructures closer to the users, having a path to use those technologies in OCP can increase the adoption of OCP with those customers

      Scenarios

      1. OCP Install Support for AWS Local Zones will address Customer Segments where low latency and data locality requirements enforce as deal breaker/show-stopper for our sales teams engagements.

      Acceptance Criteria

      • The results of research have been documented
      • All issues, if there are any, should be addressed
      • If approved by BU to support of Local Zones when installing in existing VPC, the product documentation should be created and QE validated

      Nice to have:

      • A blog created on the HybridCloud portal
      • A public documentation that could help any other OCP/OKD user who wants to create clusters using AWS Local Zones

      Dependencies (internal and external)

      1. Documentation and QE Teams validate the procedures
      2. Teams to review the procedures: Installer
      3. BU to guide the desired content to be published on the HybridCloud
