Goal
Customers should be given the option to transition from standalone OpenShift to OpenShift with hosted control planes. This process may require tasks such as etcd backup and restore, as well as API translation activities between standalone OpenShift (for example, MachineConfig) and Hosted Control Planes with APIs such as HostedClusters and NodePools.
Benefit Hypothesis:
We believe that by working on this, we will enable customers who currently rely on standalone OpenShift to easily transition to using hosted control planes without any issues.
At present, they may be hesitant to make the move due to lack of a clear migration story.
