The current Jaeger Operator is instrumented using an old version of the OpenTelemetry API. Before doing more instrumentation, it would be necessary to update to a newer version, which might involve breaking changes. It would also be a good opportunity to learn about how the instrumentation is done and how to extract telemetry data from the operator (traces and metrics).
