Usability: add visual cue to diagram when transformation isn't valid

When the transformation isn't valid, for what ever reason, can there be a visual clue (some change of color) that gives the user feedback. A suggestion would be to change the transformation symbol in the diagram "RED" (or some other color) that gives the visual cue, cause sometimes, due to the screen size, the error isn't visually seen.
