Each and every AWS/Azure accounts on which RHEL7 ELS PAYG instances are running and using ELS offering should be subscribed to ELS on-demand offering and should be linked to the Red Hat account. Then only the Red Hat can forward the billing data to the respective AWS/Azure account. Failure to subscribe to the ELS on-demand offering and link the accounts correctly results in usage and billing data not being forwarded to the cloud from Swatch.
Currently, Swatch UI > “*RHEL for x86 ELS On-Demand”* does not display any error/warning message for the systems which are reporting usage in swatch but billing data is not forwarded to AWS/Azure billing dashboard because they are not subscribed to the ELS on-demand offering and are not linked properly to Red Hat accounts. Swatch UI should display an Red! error mark for the systems which would allow customer to identify the systems from AWS/Azure accounts are reporting usage but do not yet have a matching AWS Marketplace subscription or are not properly linked to Red Hat.
For instance, many customers manage a large number of Azure and AWS accounts, and the frequent creation of new accounts is common due to evolving projects and requirements. Without a tool that shows which accounts are subscribed to the ELS on-demand offering and correctly linked to the Red Hat account, these customers face ongoing challenges with usage data and billing inconsistencies. By giving them clear visibility, customers can ensure proper linkage and avoid billing issues.
Many customers have automated processes in place to register their accounts with Red Hat. While all accounts may be reporting usage data, it can still be difficult to determine which accounts are properly linked to AWS or Azure. Customers need an easy way to identify accounts that are reporting usage but do not yet have a matching AWS Marketplace subscription or are not properly linked to Red Hat.
To assist customers in managing their cloud resources more efficiently, an interface should be developed within the Hybrid Cloud Console (HCC) in subscription watch > “RHEL for x86 ELS On-Demand” . This interface would allow customers to easily view which AWS and Azure accounts are subscribed to the ELS on-demand offering and linked to their Red Hat account.
With this feature, customers will have visibility into which accounts are linked empowering them to address any gaps by linking remaining accounts. This would prevent issues related to incomplete or inaccurate billing data being forwarded to the cloud from HCC.
