Each and every AWS/Azure accounts on which RHEL7 PAYG instances are running and using ELS on-demand offering should be subscribed to ELS on-demand offering and should be linked to the Red Hat account. Then only the Red Hat can forward the billing data to the respective AWS/Azure account.
Currently, Subscription watch does not display any error or warning message for the AWS/Azure RHEL7 ELS PAYG instances which would allow customer to understand that the billing data is not forwarded to the respective AWS/Azure cloud accounts. we don’t yet have the capability to allow users to get that information straight from the Hybrid Cloud Console so they can understand which AWS/Azure accounts are not subscribed to ELS PAYG but systems are reporting usage.
Many customers have automated processes in place to register their accounts with Red Hat. While all accounts may be reporting usage data, it can still be difficult to determine which accounts are properly linked to AWS or Azure. Customers need an easy way to identify accounts that are reporting usage but do not yet have a matching AWS Marketplace subscription or are not properly linked to Red Hat.
The systems billing information reported accurately in the swatch UI but not forwarded to cloud. So, swatch UI should mark the systems with Red! error where the AWS/Azure accounts are not subscribed to the ELS on-demand offering and are not linked properly to Red Hat account due to which the ELS usage/billing data not visible on the AWS/Azure side.
With this feature, customers will have visibility into which accounts are linked or unlinked, empowering them to address any gaps by linking remaining accounts. This would prevent issues related to incomplete or inaccurate billing data being forwarded to the cloud from HCC.
For instance, many customers manage a large number of Azure and AWS accounts, and the frequent creation of new accounts is common due to evolving projects and requirements. Without a tool that shows which accounts are subscribed to the ELS on-demand offering and correctly linked to the Red Hat account, these customers face ongoing challenges with usage data and billing inconsistencies. By giving them clear visibility, customers can ensure proper linkage and avoid billing issues.
A user-friendly feature should be developed within Hybrid Cloud Console (HCC) in the subscription watch > “RHEL for x86 ELS On-Demand” that allows customers to easily identify which systems from AWS/Azure accounts are reporting usage but are not linked to AWS or Azure Marketplace subscriptions. This will streamline the process of linking and setting up these accounts for proper billing, ensuring no gaps in reporting.
