Description of problem:
Provisioning a new host in Red Hat Satellite using an existing MAC address (previously associated with another host) but with a new hostname and new IP address fails during PXE installation.
How reproducible:
100%
Is this issue a regression from an earlier version:
Steps to Reproduce:
- tested with PXE and DHCP
- Hosts → Create Host
- Enter:
-
- Do not delete the existing host profile
-
- use Same MAC address as an existing host
-
- Different IP address and hostname
- Click Submit, it will return a conflict pop up and give the option to do overwrite.
- perform overwrite new host profile will get created.{}
- Reboot the host server and check the console.
Actual behavior:
performing an overwrite allows us to complete new profile, but on server console returns the following error
**
An error occurred during registration attempt triggered by the rhsm kickstart command.
This could have happened due to incorrect rhsm command arguments or subscription infrastructure issues.
Would you like to ignore this and continue with installation?
Error detail: rhel9.example.local
Expected behavior:
overwrite function should work properly, and the new host build should complete successfully without manual intervention.
