While upgrading a disconnected (IOP-enabled) Red Hat Satellite environment from version 6.18 to 6.19, the official documentation does not include clear instructions on how and from where to download the required IOP images for 6.19 prior to performing the upgrade.
This creates confusion during upgrade planning and execution in air-gapped environments.
Current Documentation Behavior:
The upgrade guide explains the Satellite upgrade procedure, but does not specify:
- Where to download the IOP images for 6.19
- The exact steps to mirror/export/import IOP images in disconnected setups
- When during the upgrade workflow, the images should be downloaded and staged
Expected Improvement:
The documentation should clearly include:
- A section specifically for Disconnected + IOP-enabled environments.
- Explicit steps to:
-
- Identify required IOP images for 6.19
-
- Download them from the appropriate source
-
- Transfer them to the disconnected Satellite
-
- Import/load them prior to running the upgrade
- Clarification on prerequisites and sequence (before/after satellite-maintain upgrade).
Impact:
- Upgrade planning delays
- Risk of incomplete or failed upgrades in air-gapped environments
- Increased support cases due to unclear prerequisites
