Research Goal:

RHEL 6 ELS has been extended and https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/rhel-els-long-life currently says it's possible to get support until December 31st 2027. Because of that we need to investigate how to keep this alive.

Success Criteria:

The open questions should be evaluated with Satellite 6.16 EUS in mind. We'd like to drop Satellite 6.16 on RHEL 8 and only support RHEL 9 Satellite and Capsules. The expected outcome is a list of issues that block the open questions. Something being practically infeasible is valid answer.

Time Box:

This should be done in a single sprint.

Open Questions:

• Can REX w/ SSH from a default RHEL 9 host to a RHEL 6 host work?
• Can REX w/ SSH from a FIPS-enabled RHEL 9 host to a RHEL 6 host work?
• Can REX w/ Ansible from RHEL 9 to RHEL 6 work?
• Is it needed to modify any crypto-policies? If so, what?
