Orphaned repositories-those no longer associated with a valid or active subscription are causing confusion in repository management, wasting storage, and creating synchronization issues. This negatively impacts customer operations and the overall health of the satellite system. We propose enhancements to increase visibility and simplify the management of orphaned repositories.

      Proposed Enhancements:

      1. Prominent Warning Banner on Web UI:
Add a red banner on the Satellite Web UI login screen that alerts users to orphaned repositories, similar to how the "End of Life" banner is used. This would ensure the issue is immediately visible to the user upon login and prioritized for resolution.
        • Updated Banner Wording: Replace the term "Orphaned" with "Subscription(s) unavailable to use one or more enabled repositories." This change aims to clearly communicate the issue as related to subscription unavailability, making it more user-friendly and actionable.
      1. Email Notifications for Orphaned Repositories:
Introduce email notifications to notify users when orphaned repositories are detected. These notifications would include:
        • A list of affected repositories.
        • Clear, actionable instructions on how to resolve the issue (e.g., renewing or associating the necessary subscriptions).
        • This proactive communication will help users address orphaned repositories before they affect operations.
      1. Repository Management Improvements:
Consider introducing a repository cleanup feature or process that identifies and automatically handles orphaned repositories that are not critical to operations. This would simplify repository management and ensure customers can quickly resolve issues.

      Impact:

      • Increased visibility of orphaned repositories, ensuring quicker resolution.
      • Reduced storage waste and repository synchronization issues.
      • Improved customer experience by providing clear, actionable information to resolve subscription-related issues.
