Problem Statement

While upgrading from Satellite 6.15 to 6.16, a customer experienced problems. It was recommend to the customer that he update his Satellite 6.15.1 to latest (6.15.5, at the time) since the latest z-stream release often introduces improvements and fixes to package dependency resolution and obsoleting no longer needed packages.

If that is true, then that should be in the upgrade guide.

User Experience & Workflow

The customer believes that advice should be part of the upgrade guide; particularly chapter 2.2, "Planning Satellite Upgrade" as doing an update, 1st, apparently increases the probability of a successful upgrade.

Requirements

Reference the steps to update a satellite or capsule as a perquisite before upgrading.

Business Impact

Customers may waste time attempting to upgrade, only to have it fail, but then succeed after they've updated.
