Problem Statement
After enabling Insights On-Premise (IOP) on Satellite 6.18, DEBUG logging is by default turned on. As a result, a large volume of iop-core-engine log entries appear in /var/log/messages, especially in environments with hundreds or thousands of hosts. Around midnight, all RHEL systems connected to Satellite with Insights enabled perform their scheduled check-in (via insights-client). Since IOP is enabled, all check-in–related data is processed by the IOP engine, which generates the corresponding extensive logging.
User Experience & Workflow
After enabling Insights On-Premise (IOP) on Satellite 6.18, DEBUG logging is enabled by default. This results in a significant volume of iop-core-engine log entries in /var/log/messages, especially in environments with hundreds or thousands of managed hosts. During the nightly check-in, when all connected RHEL systems run insights-client, the IOP engine processes all incoming data and generates extensive logs.
Requirements
1. Need a configurable setting to turn off IoP DEBUG logging.
2. Looking for methods to limit IoP log verbosity or reduce log output.
3. A persistent way or command to change the IoP log level is needed, preferably via satellite-installer, or alternatively through hammer and service restarts.
Business Impact
To improve log manageability and reduce unnecessary noise, requesting an option to disable, limit, or adjust the verbosity of IoP DEBUG logging. This would help prevent excessive log growth and improve the overall observability experience for large-scale deployments.
