Problem Statement
Currently, it is not possible to use Satellite to check the lifecycle of AppStream packages installed on content hosts. It's not possible to determine whether there are packages installed that are already retired or where the support ends in the next few month.
Satellite should be able to check this status in the same way as the Planning service in the hybrid cloud console.(RHEL/Planning/Life Cycle).
User Experience & Workflow
The user likes to the Satellite WebUI navigate to Red Hat Lightspeed -> Planning -> Life Cycle. There they like to find a view and functionality as in our Hybrid Cloud Console in RHEL -> Planning -> Life Cycle.
There they like to check:
- The RHEL X Application Streams lifecycle
- See on how many systems a certain AppStream package is installed
- With a click in column "Systems" they would like to get a list of hosts where the package is installed.
- It must be possible to export this list as CSV, JSON, or XML for further processing this information.
As an outcome the customer would have the necessary information to take aktion and remediate the hosts with retired packages.
Requirements
- Satellite needs to be able to list on how many content hosts AppStream packages are installed that are out of support (retired) or going out of support soon. [MVP]
- Satellite needs to generate a list of content hosts where a certain retired AppStream package is installed. [MVP]
- The user needs to be able to export that list to process the information, e.g. CSV, JSON, XML. [MVP]
- Optional: Delivering of the Roadmap feature of the Lightspeed Planning service.
TL;DR: They like to use the Lightning Planning Service in Satellite as they are not able to send data to the hybrid cloud console.
Business Impact
What would happen if the inclusion of this feature wasn’t undertaken?
- The customer won't be able to use Satellite to determine whether there are packages installed on content hosts that are already retired or where the support ends in the next few month.
- The customer needs to invest way more time to discover AppStream packages in their infrastructure and check their support status.
Would any projects at Red Hat be negatively affected?
- I cannot see any negative impact on any Red Hat project.
