Problem Statement

The current duration for which tool tips are displayed on hover is too short, making it difficult for users to read and comprehend the full content of the message, particularly for longer strings. The pop-up disappears in less than two seconds, which is insufficient time for a user to shift their focus, read the message, and understand it. This forces users to repeatedly hover over the element, leading to frustration and a degraded user experience. The problem being solved is to provide an adequate amount of time for users to comfortably read the full context of a tool tip, improving usability and reducing user friction.

User Experience & Workflow

• A user is on the "Job invocations" page and needs to view the full hostname or query string of a job.

• The user moves their cursor and hovers over an item in the "Search Query" or "Description" column that has truncated text.

• Current Outcome: A tooltip containing the full text appears, but it disappears very quickly, often before the user can finish reading it. The user must move their cursor away and then back to the element to make the tooltip reappear, repeating this process until they can fully read the message.

• Proposed Outcome: A user hovers over an item. The tooltip appears and remains visible for a significantly longer period (e.g., 5-10 seconds or until the cursor is moved away from the element). This allows the user to read the message at a comfortable pace without having to repeatedly re-hover.

• The user can verify success by observing that they can comfortably read the entirety of any popped-up message without the tooltip disappearing prematurely.

Requirements

• REQ-001 (MVP): Increase the hover-over display time for all tooltips within the application to a minimum of 5 seconds or until the cursor is moved off the element, whichever comes first.

• REQ-002: The increased duration should apply consistently to all tooltips and pop-up descriptions across the application, not just on the "Job invocations" page.

• REQ-003: The tooltip should disappear immediately upon the user moving their cursor away from the hover element.

Business Impact

While not a critical bug, the short tooltip duration is a common "paper cut" that negatively impacts the user's perception of the product's usability and polish. These small irritants can add up, leading to a frustrating experience that reflects poorly on the overall quality of Red Hat Satellite. Addressing this issue is a low-effort development task with a high return on investment in user satisfaction. Failure to do so would leave a known usability issue unresolved, potentially increasing minor support tickets or negative user feedback related to UI frustration. This is a simple improvement that contributes directly to a more professional and user-friendly product.
