      If you use Satellite to manage image mode hosts with transient packages, you can generate a new Containerfile install command to persist transient packages in your container image. By placing the command in the Containerfile, you can build a new container image that includes the necessary packages. You can then upgrade your image mode host to the new image, incorporating the packages into future builds.

      Goal:

      • Provide users with a way to track transient packages installed on image mode hosts so that they may determine how far a host has drifted from the container image.

      Acceptance Criteria:

      • Display packages' persistence status.
      • Help users incorporate packages into future builds.

      Open questions:

      • Should we show all transient installs, or just the ones initiated by Satellite? -> All
        • Will dnf provide a way to see the currently installed transient packages? -> Yes
      • Does this need to be limited to image mode hosts? -> Yes
      • Should we make it more obvious somehow if a host has any transient packages installed? Maybe a boolean field on the host listing page, or maybe a new Host Status entry?
