5.3.2. Enrolling Satellite Server with the AD server
5.3.3. Configuring direct AD integration with GSS-proxy
The procedures for connecting Satellite Server directly to an AD server use two pieces of software: Samba Winbind for the actual joining and then SSSD for the additional configuration. There are a few issues with this approach:
- SSSD is the preferred method of direct AD integration for single-forest environments (for mult-forest environments, IPA with trusts is preferred). Samba Winbind is third-party software.
Goal:
- Review the currently documented steps for connecting Satellite to an AD domain through direct integration, investigate what is the most user-friendly and consistent approach, and document that.
Acceptance Criteria:
- An assembly that covers a consistent and user-friendly way of connecting Satellite Server to an AD Server by using direct AD integration
Open questions:
- Will using SSSD only work? We need to test the procedure without Samba Winbind.
- Do we want to document only the SSSD procedure and drop references to Samba? SSSD Eng recommends to drop Samba completely.
