      Document URL:

      Section Number and Name:

Upgrading and Updating Red Hat Satellite

      Describe the issue:

This question was asked by many of our customers, and it is always a concern when it comes to applying patches to the system running the satellite server without changing the satellite version or any other given condition or circumstance(release lock, package exclusion etc.).

Normally, the kinds of questions we get are:

      1) How do I apply patches without changing the Satellite version?

      2) The system running Satellite should be locked to a specific minor version; how should I apply the patches?

      3) Is there any list of packages that we should add to the exclude list while updating the satellite server?

      4) If a 'dnf update' is accidentally performed on the satellite server, what should be done?

      4) Last but not least, what are the best practices to update the system running the satellite server?

It would be nice to have a section in the product documentation (which may be below 'Upgrading and Updating Red Hat Satellite') that addresses the above concern.

      Additional information:

The steps are documented in the KCS https://access.redhat.com/solutions/4591281
