$ yum check-update fails with

should list the available updates.

Additional info:
As mentioned in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1203963 the below workaround doesnt help.

$rm -rf /var/cache/yum/*
$ yum clean all

Disabling and enabling the repo also has not helped.
