Starting from RHEL 10, subscription-manager only allows the registration to Simple Content Access (SCA) organizations. This was implemented as RHEL-41063.
As a result of the above, functionalities related to entitlements are being phased out and removed from subscription-manager. While the work above covers the registration of new RHEL 10 systems, another way to get to RHEL 10 is an IPU from RHEL 9. Since subscription-manager in RHEL 9 (and older versions) still supports all the workflows related to entitlements, this means that the upgrade of such RHEL 9 systems to 10 would get into a non-functional state.
Goal
The request is to create a new inhibitor in leapp to prevent the upgrade of RHEL 9 systems registered with subscription-manager, and registered to a non-SCA organization. This way, a system administrator trying to upgrade a registered RHEL 9 system not in SCA mode would be prevented to upgrade.
Acceptance criteria
- The 9->10 upgrade of a system registered to a non-SCA organization shall be inhibited by default
- The 9->10 upgrade of a system registered to a SCA organization shall proceed as usual, with no additional block
