What were you trying to do that didn't work?

If the user changes lvm.conf use_devicesfile from 1 to 0, the old system.devices file remains in place.  If the user later changes lvm.conf use_devicesfile from 0 back to 1, the old system.devices will immediately be used again.  But, the old system.devices may no longer be correct due to system changes while it was disabled.  So, if lvm commands see lvm.conf use_devicesfile=0 and system.devices exists, they should rename system.devices to system.devices-unused.<YYYYMMDD>.<HHMMSS>.  If the use enables use_devicesfile again, they will need to create a new system.devices or manually copy the renamed file back to system.devices.
