1. Proposed title of this feature request
Add GeoTIFF support to gdal
3. What is the nature and description of the request?
GDAL in RHEL 9.7 missing GeoTIFF/GTIFF support. Customer needs GeoTIFF support for applications. Customer cannot see how providing GDAL is of any use without this support.
4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Multiple systems and applications require GeoTIFF support in their organization, and without it said applications cannot run and are inoperable.
5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)
Customer needs the internal gdal GeoTIFF support enabled. This creates no additional libraries and is already available in the RedHat CodeReady source RPM. This involves just a parameter change within the spec file before building the RPM. This will enable GeoTIFF formats to be utilized with the gdal RPM.
6. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.
To test if the requirement is successful, after GeoTIFF/gtiff suporrt is enabled and the rpm is built and installed, run the "gdalinfo --formats" command on command-line and the following formats should be displayed:
[user@system ~]# gdalinfo --formats
Supported Formats: (ro:read-only, rw:read-write, +:update, v:virtual-I/O s:subdatasets)
VRT raster, multidimensional raster (rw+v): Virtual Raster (*.vrt)
GTiff raster (rw+vs): GeoTIFF (*.tif, *.tiff)
COG raster (wv): Cloud optimized GeoTIFF generator (*.tif, *.tiff)
MEM raster, multidimensional raster (rw+): In Memory Raster
If the above formats are listed, then the requirement is successfully implemented.
7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?
No.
8. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies and which release would they like to target (i.e. RHEL5, RHEL6)?
No specific timeline dependencies, but customer would like to see this in enabled "in RHEL 9 and beyond".
9. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?
Sales is not involved.
10. List any affected packages or components.
gdal
11. Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?
Yes, customer has a development environment to test in before deploying to prod.
