      Goal

      • Kubevirt/CNV wants a way to add a qcow2 wrapper (utilizing the 'data_file' feature) on top of an existing 'raw' volume while the VM is running
        • this is needed to allow enabling incremental backups for a VM without the need to restart the VM
      • In the past there was also a request to allow changing the disk source to another path/source without the need to copy data (e.g. via blockdev-mirror) in case the underlying storage allows it
        • note that this isn't currently being actively requested

      Acceptance criteria

A list of verification conditions, successful functional tests, or expected outcomes in order to declare this story/task successfully completed.

      • qcow2 wrapper using 'data_file' can be installed on top of existing image at runtime
