Current implamentation of RHEL IPU contains number of problems when speaking about storage. The original solution has been planned since the very beginning as temporary and the need for the improvement is visible more every year. The current solution does not limit the possibility to in-place upgrade various systems, but also limits the possibility of investigation of such issues as it's hard to investigate what actually is broken when number of storage technologies are used and all of them are potentially impacted - due to number of known issues for any of them during the upgrade.
To be able to improve it, we need to redesign the current solution and investigate what else we are missing for various storage technologies. This work does not expect to resolve all possible issues, but it should provide overall improvement.
Note that this does not include at this moment network storage which requires ethernet or infiniband as that's blocked by networking problems - even when we can think of some possible improvements at this point as well.
This epic expects also to get upgrades in `livemode` to the supported state (tracked by the linked epic)
