Before we start work here we should reach out to the HCC notifications team in #team-consoledot-notifications and see if there is any of their tooling we can use to save us implementing all of these different integrations.
We currently have a notification tab in the WebRCA UI, which is just a list of notifications that need to be done for the given incident. No actual notifications are being done. The feedback for that feature is that it is confusing and it is not quite clear what purpose it should serve.
The idea here would be to do / send actual notifications (email, slack & mobile-app – another possible feature) and use the notifications tab in the UI as a log of the notifications & escalations that got sent to people and to teams.
The feature would allow you to:
- Notify a person / team during when doing an escalation
- Be notified (email, slack, mobile-app) when a new incident for a given product is declared
- Be able to subscribe to important events in the incident lifecycle (incident is resolved, incident is closed, a retrospective doc is created)
- Personal / team notifications for outstanding TODOs
- Personal / team notifications with reports
Acceptance Criteria: A design doc, database schema migration to support storing user/team preferences on events that they would like to get notifications on, and an API support to submit such preferences.
