Section Title: | Guided Exercise: Manage File System Permissions from the Command Line |
Issue description
In the "perms-cli" lab (which teaches collaborative directory creation using file system permissions), Step 9 and the corresponding video incorrectly state that group members can modify each other’s files by default if they belong to the same group (in this case, consultants).
In step 6.2 consultant1 creates a file consultant1.txt. Step 9 (and the video) states that consultant2 should be able to modify that file since both users are in the same consultants group. However, in RHEL9 the default umask is 0022 and therefore the access permission on that file is 0644. As a result, it is NOT possible for consultant2 to modify the file.
In RHEL 9, files created by regular users inherit permissions based on the user’s umask, which is 0022
