Using Project Quay 3.7.8 create an organization called "openshiftio", in configuration settings, configure remote registry to point to "registry.ci.openshift.org/origin". DO NOT enter any username/password and click Save. You will get the error. As a point of comparison try to pull using podman:

```
$ podman pull registry.ci.openshift.org/origin/something-totally-fake:pull --log-level=debug
```

You will get a "name unknown" error, not a login failed error.

While testing out the Proxy Cache/pull through feature of quay 3.7.8 I attempted to mirror "registry.ci.openshift.org/origin" as an anonymous user. The error I get back is "Failed login to remote registry. Please verify entered details and try again".

I discussed this with Flavian on Slack (https://coreos.slack.com/archives/C7WH69HCY/p1665406628156199) and it was suggested that I open a bug for this.

When pulling images from registry.ci.openshift.org/origin with Podman there is no authentication required, and the pull works just fine.
