    • OBSDA-914OpenTelemetry Integrations
    • 100% To Do, 0% In Progress, 0% Done

      Background

The AWS Cloud Provider is a major platform for deploying and managing workloads. Integrating OpenTelemetry into AWS ensures that applications and OpenShift infrastructure can export metrics, traces, and logs for enhanced observability. This feature will allow seamless integration with AWS Observability services for all traces Observability signals.

      High-Level Goals

      • Simplify data collection and forwarding for OpenShift and third-party applications running on AWS.
      • Support platform and application telemetry export to AWS Observability services using OpenTelemetry collectors.
      • Support collection of specific  AWS data

      Requirements

      1. Documentation
        • Provide official AWS integration documentation for observability in OpenShift.
        • Steps for configuring OpenTelemetry collectors to export data to AWS Observabilty
        • Ensure that it is well documented that these components will be in Tech Preview and we don't plan to reach GA
        • Add links to corresponding AWS configuration
      2. Observability data Collection and Export
        • Enable collection and forwarding of logs, traces, and metrics from OpenShift to AWS and vice-versa by enabling relevant receivers and exporters
          • Minimum: awscloudwatchlogsexporter, awsemfexporter, awsxrayexporter
          • Also anticipate customer needs by reviewing components present in AWS distro for OTel (doc) and propose which ones may be needed soon so we add them.
      3. Dashboard Integration
        • Explore setting up example dashboards for visualizing key OpenShift on AWS metrics.
