MTV delegates the import of the individual VMs to VM Import Operator (VMIO). However, it ties MTV to CNV release cycle to allow new features and fix bugs. And because VMIO is used by the Single VM Import wizard, itself a feature of OpenShift Console, it ties MTV to the OpenShift release cycle.

By moving the VMIO logic into MTV, we would be more loosely coupled to CNV and this would alleviate the pressure to follow the CNV release cycle. It would also make the code base more consistent in the MTV solution, simplifying the maintenance and new developers ramp up.
