      Description of problem:

      The original PR for this issue was only addressed in 6.3 and was enabled via annotations.    For backporting this fix, we may need to do the same thing, but it would be preferred to begin planning to add this to the forwarder spec, and/or enabling it by default.    I have set the target version to our v6 only for now.    Is it a must we also modify v5 to enable these annotations (will be a completely different code change)?
