    • OSC 1.12 Backlog, Denalli #2026/2

      Goal

Review current implementation of daemonset based deployment of OSC with HCP on IBM ROKS -  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SMAIfwrYM5DqU6YaBZM3kg-2VHIvb0-UDap8MUH2Xqk/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.elsf34becedi

and identify the gaps and possible solutions to address those bottlenecks. One such proposal here:  https://github.com/openshift/sandboxed-containers-operator/pull/1349

Also, note that image mode based layering is now supported in RHCOS:

      https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.20/html/machine_configuration/mco-coreos-layering

      Why this matters

      1. MachineConfig is not available in hosted clusters
      2. NodePool API is not exposed in some hosted clusters (eg. IBMCloud, ROSA)
      3. Daemonset (DS) is the way forward and DS has to implement (some) MCO functionality to handle install/uninstall/node-reboots etc
      4. DS must not depend explicitly on the RHCOS extension image

      Acceptance Criteria

A technically validated proposal document that lists the gaps in existing implementation and concrete solution options with architecture, workflows and baseline policies to address the bottlenecks.
