Goal:
With the effort to bring RHEL conversions to Insights, at the beginning we focused on allowing conversions from CentOS Linux 7 to RHEL 7 BYOS only (HMS-1684). BYOS = Bring Your Own Subscription, i.e. using the traditional yearly subscriptions.
Red Hat is now building an alternative to BYOS dubbed metered billing or Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG). The goal is to allow customers to convert a CentOS Linux 7 host registered to Insights to RHEL 7 PAYG (SKU: RH02781HR).
Acceptance Criteria:
- The conversion script (
HMS-2894) that is executed by rhc-worker-script and triggered from the Red Hat Insights Conversion Task is updated to run convert2rhel with CONVERT2RHEL_CONFIGURE_HOST_METERING=auto environment variable to make sure the host-metering package is installed and the host-metering service is enabled and started after a successful conversion- host-metering is one of the building blocks of the metered billing that reports the use of a system to Red Hat (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KWU1SB9KnhZhTy1WG7APm5fGV6bYAdpQXXTPjyrt1Yk/edit)
- The updated script is deployed in production Insights on March 14 which is two days after the release date of convert2rhel that will introduce the environment variable (RHELC-1226). We've agreed on this deployment date with epanayio@redhat.com.
