XCMSTRAT-79 is bringing a requirement to support AWS Dedicated Hosts (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/dedicated-hosts-overview.html) for the machines backing the nodes in Hypershift Nodepools and potentially, OCP Machinepools.
There is no support today for Dedicated Hosts on the Hive API which is what OCM would need to provision a MachinePool using Dedicated Hosts.
This story is to investigate the feasibility of allowing customers to configure their MachinePools using AWS Dedicated Hosts
Some initial considerations:
- Dedicated Hosts do not allow auto-placement by default, meaning customers may require the ability to bind a MachinePool to a specific dedicated instance
- Dedicated Hosts can be restricted in the instance types that they support, so there is likely additional validation to be performed in that the requested instance types for a MachinePool on a Dedicated Host can actually be supported by that Host
