Today the agent stores metadata in inventory without any version info.

What this means is we have resource types like "WildFly Server" and "Host Controller" with no versions - so we can only use these for a single version (like WildFly Server 11.0.0.Final). If we want to introduce similarly named types we have to affix versions in the type name like "WildFly Server 10.0.0.Final".

Should we consider versioning metadata such as resource types? This will require some changes to inventory schema and API as well as changes to the agent.
