We need to identify improvements in the integration testing setup for Cruise Control.

Moving away from internal Kafka API and raw invocations of the Kafka core servers towards a more decoupled "black box" testing setup perhaps using the newly published Kafka docker containers and/or the testcontainers library.

We should create proposals around this and also suggest ways we could allow testing the current cruise control against multiple different Kafka versions.

Some or all of these proposals may come out of the investigation of the internal API usage in ENTMQST-6646|https://issues.redhat.com/browse/ENTMQST-6646], but any additional testing only improvements should be included in the same output document.
