At the moment the operator has always been run against OpenShift 3.11. While there are no known openshift specific API's being used, as the routes that are suggested are not integrated, we have not as of yet run the operator against plain vanilla kubernetes, or minikube.

We need to run it against minikube or a full plain vanilla kubernetes install, and create issues to resolve for any shortcomings.
