After a LSM operation succeeds we leave behind the old volumes because we don't want to delete data until the VM owner can confirm that everything is working properly. This is probably a good idea but it does create a manual cleanup task for the VM owner which is not too friendly. We should explore how we can make this cleanup more user-friendly.
