Description
As we prepare to bring WINDUP into the Konveyor community and integrate it to the Application Inventory it is an opportune time to review its technical architecture and it's functional capabilities.
Reporting issues, with quickfixes, is no longer enough. The automated application of migration changes is what is expected. We need to review other migration technologies/assets (Openrewrite / Eclipse Transformer) and see how they can be leveraged to provide complementary capabilities to WINDUP.
WINDUP needs satisfy the Java EE to Jakarta EE use case. Related WIP document.
Other things to consider:
Could we have a CLI distribution without the Lucence index of known software artifacts?
If so it would make the Eclipse Plugin considerably smaller. The large size of the plugin has always been a blocker to MTA being included in the shipped set of JBoss tools within CRS.
Exposing the graph database via an API so that users can interrogate for themselves rather than having to rely upon the static reports is a feature that is also in demand.
Furthermore there are some aging technologies (Forge and Furnace) that are embedded within the product that should be reviewed.
