this is not necessary. This is the official documentation which means we use released versions which are in maven central and respective jboss repos. building it locally should not be necessary for the normal user.
I would simply remove this from the documentation and maybe call the next section "Configure the Maven Plugin" instead.

section A.1. MAVEN PLUGIN ARGUMENTS:
We need to mention all the default values if any.
For the value inputDirectory we should make clear what we mean by the source directory. whether it is just src or src/main. the source code says project.build.sourceDirectory which defaults to src/main/java. please see WINDUP-1988 which might change the current default value.
I would not call it BUILD_DIRECTORY but project.build.directory which defaults to target
What we additionally need is documentation on how the plugin should be configured for multi module projects.
