The com.google.protobuf module includes io.perfmark:perfmark-api but I don't see much indication anything uses it. I suspect it was used in the past but no longer is.

It's only a 6385 byte jar, so this is minor.

The com.google.protobuf module is private so we are free to change the resources it provides.

Alternatively, we could upgrade from the current 0.23.0 release from 2020 to the latest 0.27.0 from 2023. The lib being noted on the weekly Component Upgrade Report is what brought it to my attention.
