The relationship between the default configurations, the Elytron later and the feature groups is quite complex and under active development. If we want to override the configuration in the WildFly Preview feature pack we could duplicate some of these but then they risk getting out of date and needing to be synchronised across two different repos.

Instead if I add an empty feature-group to the core-feature-pack and depend on it from the Elytron layer I am hoping other feature packs can then just override this to make security config tweaks.
