Feature Overview
CXL memory is a mechanism to add memory capacity to hosts and use it as general purpose or specialized memory, effectively expanding it's RAM capacity.
Usually CXL memory is slower than DRAM.
Goals
Allow CXL memory to be configured from openshift in order to allow VMs to benefit from it,
- Who benefits from this feature, and how? Customers. CXl memory for cost effective memory expansion of nodes with high core count.
- What is the difference between today’s current state and a world with this feature? Today CXL memory is not supported in RHEL and no ihgh level configuration is available via OCP.
Requirements
Requirement | Notes | isMvp? |
---|---|---|
RHEL enablement to support CXL memory | Yes | |
(Likely) memtierd for optimal use of CXL memory | Possibly | |
Operator to allow CXL to be managed from OpenShift | Yes | |
Monitoring & Alerting | Yes | |
(Optional) Use Cases
