The goal of this epic is to understand the direction we will take with regards to Kafka. Essentially there are 2 options:

• keep supporting the architecture without Kafka 
• Implement Kafka support in the operator

After this epic the team should understand which solution is optimal for us: what will be the impact on the operator, how much code will need to be written.
