Our productization pipeline isn’t the most exciting part of our jobs and should not be the responsibility of a single individual. In order to have all engineers highly motivated and performing interesting work, we need to keep each engineer’s interaction with the productization process to a minimum, by balancing the load among all engineers. One possible way to do this is by making sure that we have proper documentation in place so that engineers can be onboarded with low friction. In a second phase, automation should be used whenever possible, to make sure manual work is reduced to a minimum.

For this goal, we expect all engineers to have been able to be the main actor behind at least one release of “Distributed tracing for OpenShift” (Jaeger, Jaeger Operator, and possibly OpenTelemetry Collector/Operator) by the end of 2021.

This goal isn’t directly connected to any strategy items but should increase the productivity of engineering in general, as exciting work will be the biggest part of every engineer’s job.
