Saving API configuration currently also launches a test request (in UI this is executed by pressing the "Save & Test in Stage environment" button). However this can quite often lead to configuration being marked incorrectly as invalid – e.g due to usage of oauth (which cannot be tested) or things such as missing OS routes.

We believe this can be quite confusing for users – it certainly managed to confuse me. There should be also the ability to simply save the configuration without launching the test request.
