Our machine OS images are built via Dockerfile. We want to verify that these images, once produced, function as expected on their target operating systems. We have an E2E suite but it is far from comprehensive. This can also include verification of the image itself - did this package get included, etc. We don't want to fully duplicate the E2E tests but more basic functional testing. There may be common tests between the two suites - code sharing can be investigated. This can, eventually, be used in an automated CI pipeline to produce the images.
