Feature Overview
Implement the ability for compute metrics to be available to Prometheus for telemetry data collection and storage.
Goals
- ability for compute metrics to be collected and stored
- use of standard interfaces allowing telemetry to be stored in the current telemetry storage system
- remove transiting traffic over the current message bus interface to allow for better scalability
Requirements
Requirement | Notes | isMVP? |
---|---|---|
Collection of telemetry using standard interfaces | yes | |
Data no longer transits the OpenStack message bus | yes | |
Limited or no loss in functionality (same metrics collected) | yes |
Out of Scope
- extended telemetry metrics beyond what was already collected
- implementation of a new collection mechanism different from what already exists
Documentation Considerations
- release notes indicating that telemetry is now collected via a method different from the message bus delivery mechanism
- document that the feature does not work in an IPv6 environment
