      Feature Overview

RHOSO 18 FR2 added support for DPDK acceleration of networker node. In case of centralized routing for tenant network workloads, all the user traffic traverses the networker node. The networker node as a result can become a choke point for processing user traffic. Increased capacity is currently achieved by deploying multiple networker node. DPDK acceleration increases the forwarding performance for the networker node and provides deterministic latency for user traffic.

This feature is to baseline the improvement in performance using DPDK acceleration.

      Goals

Baseline forwarding performance for a networker node with DPDK acceleration. The performance results will provide information that may be used to define scale guidelines for customer deployments.

      Requirements **

      • RFC 2544 performance test with varying frame sizes (64 bytes, 256, 512, 1024, iMIX)
        • Measurement of throughput per CPU core (mpps, Gbps)
        • Latency, Jitter
      • Simulate tenant workfloads with number of flows per port. Measure performance with incremental increase in number of flows per port. Measure the impact of increased number of flows on forwarding performance
      • Test results must provide sufficient data to define scale guidelines for customers

      Done - Acceptance Criteria

Defined tests in the requirements with test report

      Documentation Considerations

Test report with test run results, test setup and test result summary. Identify any anomalies, limitations or considerations for the deployment

      Background and Strategic Fit

Tactical: Required to create scale guidelines for customers and develop a common understanding of performance improvements achieved

Strategic: Plays an important role in large-scale deployments with centralized forwarding configuration where most of the traffic is expected to go through networker node
