      .Distributed zones with third-party storage

RHOSO 18.0.10 (Feature Release 3) supports the integration of third-party storage appliances within distributed zone environments. The NFS and Fiber Channel protocols in distributed zone environments are provided as a technology preview and are not yet recommended for production use.

As we add Distributed Zones support in RHOSO with Ceph, we want to extend the storage support to certified third party support.

The limitations we had in pre RHOSO such as Cinder A/A, moving back control services to central and the solid support from glance multi-stores backed by Cinder, we have all the core pieces to support non ceph backend.

NFS & FC protocols are TP in FR3

      Key aspects to be refined

      • Same key principles
        • One backend per site
        • One AZ per site incl central
        • One cinder backend per site (not A/A)
        • One glance store per site with an arbitrary site as default
        • Same latency requirements
      • Certified cinder drivers only
      • Glance backed by cinder
      • Nova local ephemeral only for ephemeral disk
      • Review Cinder Image-Volume cache to speed up boot from volume
      • Consider how much Glance cache is relevant.
      • Add manila to the picture

We also need to find a default non ceph backend to test the solution with.

There should not be any core openstack gaps but we need to check if there is any operator work needed to deploy this architecture.

This feature applies to the "campus HA" only, this has more priority than DCN edge with third party given customer's interest.
