      Outcome Overview

This outcome will deliver a validated, documented, and officially supported Backup & Restore (B&R) solution for Red Hat OpenStack on OpenShift (RHOSO) that achieves parity with the system-level B&R capabilities provided in Red Hat OpenStack Platform (RHOSP) 17.1.

This incremental movement enables RHOSO to be used in production environments where B&R is a mandatory operational requirement. By leaning into existing OpenShift B&R products, we reduce engineering effort and streamline the operational experience for customers already familiar with OpenShift B&R practices, thereby accelerating customer adoption and migration from RHOSP to RHOSO.

      Success Criteria

For this outcome to be considered delivered, the following must be true:

      1. A supported B&R process exists for RHOSO that successfully captures and restores the equivalent of the RHOSP 17.1 Undercloud, Control Plane hosts, and OpenStack Database: RHOSO control plane and OpenStack databases.
      1. The B&R solution exclusively utilizes OpenShift's native B&R capabilities and/or supported OpenShift B&R products (e.g., OADP/Velero, etc.) to perform the required system backup.
      1. The restored RHOSO deployment is fully functional, stable, and ready to accept tenant workloads without manual intervention beyond the documented restore process.
      1. Official, customer-facing documentation is published that details the necessary steps for system backup and full system recovery for RHOSO.

      Expected Results (what, how, when)

      • Unblock Production Sales/Adoption: The availability of a supported B&R solution removes a key blocker for customers requiring an operational recovery plan for their OpenStack control plane.
      • Operational Efficiency: Leveraging OpenShift's B&R capabilities results in a more efficient and standard operational workflow for customers already managing OpenShift clusters.
      • Technical Validation & Reliability: Successful validation ensures the solution is robust and meets the operational requirements of a production environment.

Post Completion Review – Actual Results

After completing the work (as determined by the "when" in Expected Results above), list the actual results observed / measured during Post Completion review(s).
