EPIC Goal
Enhance the Developer Lightspeed user experience in RHDH by introducing chat history management, favourites grouping, and refined in-chat UX improvements. This will empower users to better organize, revisit, and interact with their past AI conversations while maintaining a clean, intuitive interface.
Why is this important?
Customers can easily rename, sort, and favourite key chats for quick reference, saving time when revisiting important AI-assisted conversations.
Enhance the Lightspeed chat experience to make it more intuitive, trustworthy, and maintainable by improving interaction flows, reducing visual clutter, and ensuring intelligent, context-aware behavior. This will increase user engagement, build confidence in the AI’s responses, and streamline the overall chat experience in alignment with Lightspeed’s core architecture (LCORE).
Acceptance Criteria
-
- Chat History Management
- Users can rename, favorite, or delete individual chat summaries via a kebab menu or right-click.
- Renamed chats update instantly in the UI.
- Favorite chats are grouped under a “Favorites” section at the top of the history panel.
- Sorting controls allow ordering by name (A–Z, Z–A) or date (Newest–Oldest).
- User’s sort preference persists across sessions.
- Chat Favorites Group
- "Favorites" group is visible by default with at least one chat as a favorite.
- “Always show Favorites group” toggle is available in User Settings → Developer Lightspeed configuration.
- When the toggle is disabled, the group collapses or hides until expanded manually.
- User’s favorite chat(s) should persist across sessions
- In-Chat UX
- During AI processing, users see a subtle “Thinking…” indicator instead of verbose reasoning text.
- Responses to general knowledge questions omit unnecessary RAG citation prompts.
- Model selection is disabled for an active chat session.
- Long responses render cleanly with proper indentation, bullet alignment, and visual hierarchy.
- When a tool is called, Developer Lightspeed shows the trail of its usage: which tools are called, and from which MCP servers (currently just the built-in MCP server in RHDH)
- Chat History Management
